Lexapro-drowsy/spacey?

Posted by strugglingmom on July 15, 2004, at 11:44:08

Hi. I am new to this board and I have been taking Lexapro for about three weeks, for a major depression (although it seems clear now, in retrospect, I have suffered mild depression for most of my life). This is my first anti-depressant, so I have no idea what to expect. The first two weeks on Lexapro brought an odd parade of side effects, most of which only lasted a day or two. But for the last six days I have been feeling incredibly drowsy, spacey, balloon-headish for about eight hours after I take the pill (actually half pill--5 mg). Then things clear up and I feel pretty good (more clear and centered) until I go to bed. My question: is this a side effect that also might pass? Or at 3 weeks am I into the more permanent effects of the drug? (Dr. said it takes two weeks to feel the effects.) I'm having a hard time focusing during those eight hours, which isn't good for my kids, my work, or frankly my feelings about myself! Thanks.
