In reply to Neurontin anyone?, posted by anxiously fedup on July 1, 2004, at 21:26:03
> Hi,
> So anyone tried Neurontin? I went to a new dr. and because I am not depressed, and only anxious with some compulsive thinking, no rituals or whatnot he want to go in a new direction. he thinks this can help alot and this guy doesn't go to high doses like other dr's on any meds. I was on 120mg of prozac a day and people seem shocked by that. I have read mostly that neurontin is very safe, low side effects, not proven for depression but helpful for anxiety, I think the big question is how long does it work for and does it really work. the american journal of psychiatry has some good things to say about it.

> I am suprised at the amount of sexual side effects that people have, even at 120mg of prozac I am still OK, sometimes it takes a while to finish but things still work. I guess I do need a bit more foreplay but all in all it isn't bad.
> Is everyone suprised at that dose of medication or have people been that high up on the dose chart before??hi! I tried Neurontin both as a sleep aid (helpful for a while) and as an anti-anxiety drug. personally, I think there are MUCH better drugs for anxiety than Neurontin. Benzos, for instance, can help a WHOLE lot...beta-blockers can help as well. Neurontin just didn't do that much for me in terms of anxiety relief, AND the manufacturer/distributer recently settled a lawsuit in which the company was accussed of unlawful and deceptive marketing practices. There's a lot of hype around Neurontin, and shrinks seem to love it, but I personally think other meds (ADs, benzos, maybe mood-stabilizers/anti-psychotics) are the way to go. As for your Prozac dosage..that is a bit on the high side. When I've gotten to the upper-end of a medication, I've usually had a booster added (stimulant, benzo, etc.) and/or a switch in the main med. But...each doc has his/her own system, and some of them do everything to avoid polypharmacy. God luck!
