> Hi I'm on lexapro10 mg and wellbutrin xl 150 to combat GAD/ depression due to GAD. I am in the process of getting used to the lexapro and wellbutrin. Prior to this I used to take paxil 40 mg, which worked fine, I also took trazodone because the paxil made it unable for me to sleep. The trazodone worked wonders. Now I am getting little rest (very little) on this new combo of drugs, mostly tossing and turning and waking up, then dozing off. It is not helping my anxiety, and I don't think it is contributing to me feeling any better. Dr. said to not take the trazodone anymore. Anyone have experiences with these medications in terms of not being able to sleep? I am afraid to ask the dr for something in the fear that he will say that I have to wait until the medicine gets situated in my system.

I slept unusually well on Wellbutrin, but SSRIs like Lexapro always gave me insomnia. The doctor is perhaps concerned about an enzyme interaction between the trazodone and Wellbutrin, but you are entitled to a good night's sleep, and there are other sleep aids available. Perhaps the most widely prescribed one is Ambien, a relatively safe med that may or may not be expensive, depending on your insurance. A very inexpensive and easy to try alternative is Benadryl (the plain allergy only formulation that just contains diphenhydramine). Beyond that are the sleep inducing benzodiazepines such as Halcion and Restoril, but I don't know how your doctor would feel about prescribing one of those.

Hopefully, your insomnia will diminish as you get used to the meds, but my insomnia from Zoloft never went away entirely. The best bet, in the short term anyway, would probably be to ask your doctor about Ambien.
