Hi Pluto,
I have been following the threads for awhile. She is unable to tolerate ssri, because they raise her blood pressure and she is unable to get other meds from her doctor. She is suffering quite frequently from paniac and anxiety symptoms. She is having chest pains too. She is really suffering, so why not just give the med a try. They do help anxiety symptoms.
As a cardiac registered nurse, I have seen hundreds of people on beta blockers and antidepressants and do just fine. Meds are a fine tuning process.
This person happens to already be on a antidepressant before administering the beta blocker. The dosage could be adjusted to help this lady without having a major depression issue. In your case, as you mentioned, you weren't on an antidepressant already.
In addition, there is a reason for a medical professional to put this lady on the medicine. I don't know whether she is informing the physician where she is not taking it or not. The doctor may be giving the valium in addition to the beta blocker in his mind. Furthermore, valium is also known to induce depression.
I am suggesting compliance. This helps physicians to see what is working and what is not working. So, as a medical professional, I would instruct a patient to be compliant and at least give their medication a fair trial especially seeing there is a lack of medication they can access and tolerate.
