> Hi - Just found out today I will be weaning off Serzone and starting Effexor.....prozac, zoloft were not good and Wellbutrin was a disaster, but then these were administered by an idiot psych who overmedicated me on everything. Since 2001 I have gone to the ends of the Earth to find docs who understand how hypersensitive I am (I took prozac at 5 mg every other day! and the "toddler dose" of Depakote!) Anyway Serzone has worked well enough since February of 2002. I've read all the posts here. I guess if anyone is hypersensitive to dosages and has had any of these experiences or has any good supportive tips or advice, then please post. I have bipolar II and am nearing the completion of Perimenopause which has wreaked havoc on my mental health. Things have been stable for about 10 months, though, with the help of estrogen supplementation. Thanks, all, for your time.

My experience with other ADs exactly. Serzone was far and away the best for me, until it started to poop out on me (or I got worse) after about 6 years on it. I went nuts on Wellbutrin and was competely spaced with anxiety on 1/2 the usual starting dose of Celexa. I was rediagnosed about 6 months ago as likely BP 2 or 3, and I seem to be a fast cycler, more like cyclothymia. You might consider Lamictal, if you haven't already tried it. It has very few side effects other than the much-hyped rash, which is very rare in adults if the dose is escalated slowly as recommended. 300 mg/day is working OK for me at present; it has stabilizing, anti-depressant and possibly some anti-anxiety properties. There are plenty of posts on it recently.
I just posted some notes on my experience with Serzone tapering under the thread "WHAT'S SAFEST WAY TO STOP SERZONE???", if you need any help with that.
