Hi! Trileptal is usually prescribed above 300mgs/daily. I used to take it at 1,200mgs/daily, at one point with zyprexa (then seroquel..then abilify...) Anyway, a higher dose of trileptal may be warranted, but mood-stabilizers take time to work. For the record, Trileptal essentially is Tegretal; they just added an oxygen molecule or something so there are far fewer side effects. Anti-psychotics take less time to work but can have nasty side effects; zyprexa made me crazy and seroquel..didn't do much. There's also Tardive Dyskinesia and Neuroleptic Malignancy Syndrome to worry about with the antipsychotics, so I'd try trileptal first...if it doesn't work, maybe try abilify; its a new, novel anti-psychotic that appears to have fewer side effects than even the other atypicals and works about as fast as an anti-depressant. Personally, depakote scares me b/c of the pancreatitis and liver damage problems.
