> I am having a lot of trouble with Geodon. First of all, I missed a dose of it a few weeks ago and the sudden shock to my body of not having it gave me a really horrible panic attack, and my anxiety has been really high ever since taking it. The only problem is is that it seems impossible for me to stop taking it cold turkey because the withdrawal is an extremely scary experience, and I really hate geodon. Is there a way to taper off of it by taking smaller doses ever week? Or can you dilute the capsules in water? Thanks.
Hello,You can and should taper off slowly, hopefully with a doctor's advice.
When taken regularyly, antipsychotics tend to increase the number of dopamine receptors in the brain, as the brain compensates for the dopamine-blocking action of AP's.
Going off an AP suddenly can cause a "dopamine overload" that can cause all sorts of weird symptoms.
The solution is to ALWAYS taper when going off an AP. That will let your brain get used to the normal (unmedicated) amounts of dopamine stimulation.
Hope this helps.
