snapper, no such thing as a stupid question: anterograde amnesia is what is best described as not having a real coherent memory of events that took place after your dosing. this is why many patients who go for - as an example - dental procedures are given 1 pill of valium, ativan, xanax, or even halcion before their op. it serves a dual purpose: it calms you down, and it makes the events that took place in the (usually half-hour) period before your op. a hard-to-recall memory, alleviating you of anxiety (and i think we are all afraid of dental procedures, to some extent, especially those painful ones!) reducing your ability to recall the big needles, blades, and the dentist (i am using this as a case example, so please take it as that) saying ``man, i have never in my 20 years seen impacted lower wisdom teeth like these - get the hydraulics!'' hope this helps, shoot me a reply for further clarification or if i have stepped on someone's toes.....and as an aside, i like going to the dentist.....all the best, chemist
