The current best treatment of SS(serotonin syndrome) is with 5-HT2A antagonists. Chlorpromazine & cyproheptadine are the prefered drugs for treatment of SS as they are potent 5-HT2A blockers, lots of drugs are great 5-HT2A blockers, Remeron is one of them, so while you are taking Remeron you have less chance of SS. This also explains why amitriptyline can be taken with MAOI's even though it is a moderate SRI as it is a good 5-HT2A blocker.
