It is a VERY potent antipsychotic ... if if is to take care of psychotic features then its probably a very good medication.
But if its just for sleep, there are other alternative meds that are less agressive and don't have the dangerous side effects like diabetes (trazodone and the likes).
My dummy doctor started me on 5mg right away to take care of slight hallucinations and sleep problem. Well lo and behold, since Zyprexa lowers the seizure treshold, it gave me about fifty absence seizures a day. Good thing he didn't mention that I shouldn't drive or operate machinery and such when he gave it to me.
I'm just glad it didn't happen while I was crossing the road or something like that.
The weight gain is also a pain in the butt ... and there isn't much you can do about it because its not that it makes the food taste better ... it plays with your blood sugar and you do really feel hungry as hell all the time. Now I usually have a very stable weight ... and in a little over a week I went from 105 to 111 pounds.
