Dear Dad:
I'm a dad too, although I haven't crossed the line into psychosis yet. I've been on Effexor for nearly 4 years with no ill effects. And very mild withdrawal when I stop cold turkey for a week or two--ALTHOUGH I DON'T RECOMMEND ANYONE TRY THIS (disclaimer). Now, if SSRIs are causing you sexual dysfunction, then Effexor will problably give you this same problem since Effexor is an SNRI. In other words, it still inhibits reuptake by the presynatic neuron (just like SSRIs).
I'd like to give my opinion about all the horrific experiences 'due to Effexor' that have been posted to innumerable web sites, however, I don't want Dr Bob to have to spank me for misbehaving. The fact is Effexor is one of the most commonly prescribed drugs today. Perhaps because it works? Perhaps because the millions of people who take without incident far outnumber the ones who call for it to be banned? You have to make the decision, but I have found it to be a life saver.
Good luck!
