I failed on SSRIs while I had success with TCAs (Anafranil). The withdrawal of Paxil has been horrible, virtually no withdrawal with Anafranil. Side effects ? I'm not so sure Anafranil had been worse then the SSRIs I've tried. Yes, there was the weight gain, but this is very common also with SSRIs on the long term.
Yes, there was the lessening of sexual desire, but at least I could reach orgasm. Yes, it made me nervous sometimes, but at least it didn't make me manic. I could write for hours on this topic but the main thing is that SSRIs has made me lost a bunch of time (and probably a career). If I wanted a substance that make me feel drugged and do dangerous things I could ask some one else instead of my psychiatrist.
