ALot of persons I know that have used one of SSRI's citaloprom, fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline and fluvoxamine haven't really had any success at all. Actually the have consistently cause more more problems especially fatigue, apathy and sexual dysfunction. Person report feeling more dead than alive. Is it time for scientists to start exploring other options [I suspect they are]
Could it be that Serotonin overload is NOT the answer?
Furthermore, the SNRI venlafaxine, from the reports I get is really nasty especially upon withdrawal.
There has been alot of talk on this site about the dopamine connection. With the exception of bupropion and the anti-parkinson's meds, as far as I am aware [I am subject to correction] all other dopaminergic medications are controlled substances and specifically referring to the ADHD meds, doctors are very reluctant to prescribe them, when they clearly benefit some if not more patients.
It would be nice to have a medicinal agent that inhibits the re-uptake of dopamine, with some but lesser affinity for the NE and 5-HT transporter protein, blocks the post synaptic auto receptor of the 5-HT1a subtype as well as some but not complete blockade of the 5-HT2a type to help with anxiety but not enough to affect appetite. Some blockade of the D-2 type, and a partial agonist activity of the GABA receptor and/or stabilization of Fast Na+ channels similar to the mood stabilizers. Some affinity for the alpha receptors to reduce sexual dysfunction would be nice too.
Anything I left Out?
Could one imagine one single agent that did ALL that? Is It Possible? Even if it were, I could just imagine the price!!!
Any thoughts
