Usual (manufacture-recommended dose) is 200 mg/day, although some people who have posted here benefit from less. Early tests indicated little improvement with doses over 200 mg., but the test groups are often too small to properly evaluate wide individual variations - or they use the statistics to chop them off as "anomalies"!.
I am just about to go up from 250 to 300, with continuing improvement as I have gone up from 100/mg day. My pdoc, who prescribes Lamictal extensively, says he has one patient on 600 mg/day, which works for that person, so it's unusual but not unprecented.
That IS a big jump, though, and sudden increases are said to increase the risk of rash even if you've been on it for a while. I would worry. My pdoc has been taking me up by 50 mg increments every 3-4 weeks.
