Hi,
Yesterday I had an appointment with my new P/Doc. The P/Doc I had previously been seeing had left and so I had to see his new replacement.
To cut a long story short my new P/Doc is rubbish and I was somewhat shocked when she leaned back in her chair and asked me what drugs I wanted. Afterall she is supposed to be the doctor - not me!
Anyway I am currently on Effexor 225mg for depression which seems to be working. However I do suffer from terrible anxiety and nervousness. The P/Doc wanted to take me off the Effexor and put me on Prozac, however I know that this would have made my anxiety worse so I refused. In the end she put me back on Promazine which really does sedate me. She said to try it for 2 weeks and then I should see my GP for some further advice. Not very professional when a psychiatrist refers you back to your GP because she doesn't know what to prescribe.
So now I've got to go back to my GP and ask him for something to help my anxiety. I've tried Buspar but it didn't help in the slightest. I've tried Stelazine and it really helped to begin with but I stupidly enough stopped taking it because I though I was cured. When my anxiety returned I tried the Stelazine again but it didn't seem to help, so thats out. I'm on Promazine but all that dose is knock me it, so I can't continue with it. Benzodiazepines work great, but my GP won't let me have them long term (including Klonopin which he claims is very addictive), so Benzos are out.
So, I really need some advice on what drug is best for anxiety and nervousness. I suffer from GAD, social anxiety, and panic attacks. Effexor has really helped my depression but has done nothing for my anxiety problems. I was thinking of asking about Sulpiride. Has anyone tried this? Is it any good? Whats the best dose to take? Is there anything better?
Many thanks for your advice.
