However the old nasty side effect of not being able to achieve orgasim is what I am fighting currently. I am going to ask my Dr about adding Buspar. I was wondering if those of you who have used this to augment this s/e could give me some details? Any and all details would be welcomed!! How long did it take to start working? Was it a significant improvement? How else did Buspar effect you? Will it be more relaxing?

Buspar does decrease serotonin, but the receptor it reduces it at has to do with the side effect of sexual dysfunction, so it works perfectly. This is primarily the receptor in which if it has too much serotonin can cause ssri side effects like anxiety, and sexual dysfunction.

The 5-HT2A receptor is serotonin receptor most implicated in the cause of sexual dysfunction. i think Buspar primarily only acts on 5-HT1A receptors (of the 5-HT receptors, that is). It is most likely its actions on the DA2 and alpha-2 adrenergic receptors that is responsible for its alleviation of sexual problems. i'm still really confused about the overall results of its 5-HT1A effects though-- as far as affective ANd sexual effects. i don't get it.
I dont claim to be no doctor---thats just what my psychiatrist told me. Who cares how it works as long as it works!!
