Is there anybody else out there who has been prescribed efexor for this condition?

You are depressed with suicidal ideation in addition to having BPD. Major depression is an Axis 1 diagnosis. There are 4 more axes that may be filled for your diagnosis. Axis 1 diagnoses include the major disorders like bipolar, major depression, schizophrenia [the full fledged]. Axis 2 comprises of personality disorders like narcissistic, borderline, schizotypal, etc.

It's kind of a secondary but no less important thing. Depression is your mood disorder [mood meaning emotions over time] though. Borderline is your personality disorder.

I think a personality disorder is more enduring while a mood disorder can go into remission. Don't fret though because psychotherapy and other types of psychological treatments can address your BPD. Officially, Effexor is for your depression and the biochemical side of things.
