It's the alcohol that's the poison, man! You can thin paint with it, power a car with it, and it burns when you put it on a wound! It causes cirrhosis, nutritional deficiencies, neurotoxicity leading to Korsikov's dementia, and a laundry list of other problems ...
That said, do not mix benzos with alcohol unless you are prepared for this sort of effect. Had you taken the xanax alone, the worst that could happen would be sleep. Hell, you could take a bottle of xanax and the worst that would could happen is sleep. The only way to kill a lab rat with Xanax is to bury it alive in it.
What you're experiencing is a hangover under the influence of xanax. Just drink a lot of water (slowly, to avoid nausea), feed yourself, take some vitamins, and vow to stick to safer drugs, such as xanax and marijuana. ;)
More good news: Xanax doesn't persist very long in the body, so it should be out of your system within 8 hours.
