I definitely think that therapy is important. I know that I picked up a lot of negative thinking processes from living with a life long depression. Mood disorders can cause us to miss out on a lot of important developmental experiences. You should probably interview a few therapists before deciding on one, and never feel pressure to use a particular therapist just because you went to a trial session. Also, you might want to use a psychologist or a social worker for therapy and just see your psychiatrist for meds. If you want a lot of feedback definitely look into cognitive behavioral therapy.
Good luck!
