In reply to what do I do when pdoc won't give me ativan., posted by Jaynee on December 24, 2003, at 5:21:37
Jaynee,
Until recently I was taking Serax (Oxazepam), which I believe is a relatively mild benzodiazapine. I have run the gammot (sp?) with many benzo's and sleeping rx's. Ativan is stronger, I think. I would discuss all concerns with pdoc. If you want to, we can correspond about this over e-mail, if we can somehow discreetly exchange addresses somehow, haha! When I am in the midst of a panic attack, I try to reassure myself that it WILL pass, that I'm not going to die, and "I will make it through this and I will be okay". Another reassurance is knowing that if it did escalate and get bad enough that you could always go to a hospital emergency room and get help. That happened to me once, and after they called my pdoc, a nurse gave me something (a benzo) to calm me down that night and help me sleep. If no one can drive you to the hospital, you can always call an ambulance. Also, I tend to have pretty bad insomnia some nights too, and anxieties because I've been having these recurrent nightmares, so after one occurs it's almost like I fight sleep because I don't want to have another nightmare like the last one. Anyway, keep me posted & I wish you the best of luck! (((hugs)))
> I am in a bad way right now. It is 3am my time and I can't sleep. When I have been like this the only thing that will calm me down is ativan. My pdoc doesn't think I need it, but he is not living with me. My nerves are shot. I am getting panic again, just basically hell here. Where do I go and what can I use to calm my nerves. Help...............
