Hi Scott,
Thanks for the info that Lamictal is supposed to be good for treating rapid-cyclicity. I've spoken to several pdocs ALL of whom say that DEPAKOTE (at a high enough dose) is the med of choice for rapid cycling. I've tried it (twice) at supposedly sufficient doses and could not tolerate it - plunged me waaaaaaay down into depression. Almost comatose at one point!
I have been on Lamictal and it increased my agitation; HOWEVER, in all fairness, at that time I was on EffexorXR which proved to be too acivating for me and also on a Thyroid med which made me very, very agitated. I would be willing to try Lamictal again, but I've been on Lithium which my pdoc recently increased (I wasn't even on a therapeutic dose cuz I'm so sensitive to meds!) and a small dose of Depakote.
SUPPOSEDLY, this combo (Lithium augmented by low dose of Depakote) is effective for rapid cycling. Time will tell since I've not been on the increased Lithium all that long yet. If this combo does NOT do the trick, I will ask about Lamictal, which is supposed to have some antidepressant properties too!
Thanks again!
