In reply to can I add paxil to wellbrutrin?sub. wb for wbsr?, posted by aquestioner on July 2, 2003, at 22:13:42
I can't help with the Wellbutrin/Paxil combo, but I thought I would share my experience with generic Wellbutrin. I've been on Wellbutrin for around 4 years (300-400mg). When I had a problem paying for the SR, my pdoc prescribed the generic for me. I can't tell you what the advantages to the SR are (I'm hoping there actually are some, otherwise I wonder about how gullible we are!) But the plain immediate release version has been on the market for over 10 years (I was on it in the early 90s). And I saw someone posted in the last few days about a new Wellbutrin formulation coming out, XR, which is once-a-day dosing I guess.
I think one of the advantages of the SR has to do with taking more than one dose per day. Since you're taking a fairly low dose, and only need to take it once a day, I would think the generic would be ok, but I'm not a doctor.
And if your doctor refuses to give you the generic, ask him for samples of the SR. I got some of them once.
I agree with what Penny said about finding a new doctor. I understand it may not be a possibility for you, but life is tough enough without dealing with a mean, rude doctor who is supposed to help you! There are some nice, helpful ones out there, really.
Good luck!
> Okay, so I'm on 150mg of Wellbutrin in the a.m. Has anyone taken Paxil with this one? My doc talked about adding this.Anyone...better to take in the evening? Withdrawals bad? Any experiences would really help. Also, I'm prescribed wellbutrin SR, but learned that there is a generic (75mg) for the "regular" Wellbutrin. The pharmacy is waiting to hear from my doctor. He's mean and rude, so I think he will want me to have to pay 80.00 instead of 40.00. Has anyone done this, had any luck? Please help. I've been reading along quite a bit and find this all very helpful as no one is tryig to make a buck here.
