I just saw this message for me. Must have not checked the 'notify later' box. Wow, thanks alot for this wonderful explanation. I've always wondered about OCD and if I had a touch of it, but I think my hyper- and hypofocus is more the ADD type - although it could be simple preoccupation from dealing with hellish stresses and a cigar is just a cigar ;-). I occasionally get a song looping through my head that WILL NOT QUIT and is very interferring and crowds out all else. It's only happened a few times, but gave me some idea of that quality of something always nagging and tapping you on the shoulder and won't get lost.

That difference in severity levels explained it very clearly. I usually don't HAVE to carry out my occasional compulsions but can waste alot of time when I get into a hyper-perfectionist jag. It will pull at me, but I can walk away from it.

My God, what a torturous malady to have! It's bad enough to feel as awful as we do without having a mental gestapo from Hell to deal with as well. I have heard that head injuries can cause/exacerbate OCD, but not not much about making other mood disorders worse. Well, buddy, I'm sure glad that you've survived those times and aren't about to go back! -BCat
