can someone clear up some simple biochemistry qu's

How can atypical anti-psychotics e.g. Zyprexa help depression/ADHD. I'm assuming being an AP it reduces Dopamine transmission and would therefore be the last type of med someone would take for say ADD? Does it have serotonergic effects too?
I've noticed that there are several people taking a stimulant for ADD together with zyprexa. I can't see how taking these two types of med together could have some sort of synergetic effect. Wouldn't the effects of one drug cancel the effects of another?
I know these are very simplistic statements, so I'm thinking that maybe the 2 meds act independantly on different brain areas. E.g. the stim might help increase dopamine transmission in parts of the frontal lobes associated with attention(therefore reducing ADD symptoms), whilst the anti-psychotic might have the opposite effect on dopaminergic neurons in seperate areas, and also maybe influence serotonergic transmission too(reducing paranoia/anxiety/depression..etc.
This is line of thought is spuing out of me as I type.
Am I talking crap? Silly Qu really! Can someone shed some light. Thanks loads in advance.
peace
Mark
