Colin,

You posted this while I was (at the very same moment) in the process of writing a message to you regarding the same topic but at a different thread:

Too weird, aye?

Thanks for the input regarding Neurontin. At my most recent visit with my pdoc (about three months ago), I discussed possible medications to try for my irritability. Of the ones on my list (the list you've seen before), he wanted me to try Neurontin first. So that's what I have a script for right now.

I've toyed with the idea of trying Neurontin (gabapentin) for a couple years. One attractive feature is the relatively benign side effect profile. It might be worth a brief trial to see what it feels like in my brain. My pdoc says it does nothing for some patients but it's the best thing since sliced bread (assuming one likes sliced bread) for other patients.

But, I hear what you are saying, Colin, and I've come to the same conclusion. Adding a serotonin medication causes changes in my brain resulting in the abatement of my flash rage and my anal retentive disorder. The question then becomes how can I obtain the benefits brought about by the serotonin medications without adversely affecting my dopaminergic pathways? For example, perhaps there are other paths to bring about the same beneficial changes achieved via the serotonin pathway. Or maybe there is a way to counteract the adverse SSRI side effects (dopaminergic problems), thereby, allowing me to take a low dose of a serotonin medication.

Thanks for your concern and friendship.

-- Ron
