> Hi... I'm just wondering what experiences people have had with MAOIs? How hard is it to deal with the dietary restrictions, and what other side effects have people had? I probably should try an MAOI because I've tried paxil, celexa, effexor, and wellbutrin, and it seems like it's time for a new category, and I don't want to try TCAs because of sweating. Thanks.

i took parnate and the dietary restrictions did not bother me at all ..... i mean
1) they are not that bad, i still ate pizza and basically everything except for 4 ingredients
2) when you are happy nothing seems to bother you

parnate had the following side effects:

-only need 6 or 7 hours sleep versus 9 - 14 beforehand
-definately increased libido
-definately increased energy
-definate weight loss
-felt great

my pdoc really loves parnate... he uses it right away ... and most studies would support him.... i think if you've failed 2 SSRIs (i.e. non responsive, or only somewhat responsive) you should definately try a TCA (for melancholic) or an MAOI (for vegetative/atypical)
... if you're getting at least a partial response from an SSRI, perhaps increasing the dose or augmenting would be a good idea
