> Hi... I'm just wondering what experiences people have had with MAOIs? How hard is it to deal with the dietary restrictions, and what other side effects have people had? I probably should try an MAOI because I've tried paxil, celexa, effexor, and wellbutrin, and it seems like it's time for a new category, and I don't want to try TCAs because of sweating. Thanks.

I too went through numerous SSRIs with limited relief, and they kept pooping out on me. For years i resisted my pdoc's advice to try an MAOI because i was afraid of the diet. I have to recommend that you give the MAOI a try, because it has knocked out my depression like nothing else, and the diet is not nearly as restrictive as you might think. Check the newer links and dont rely on the old lists that the docs seem to hand out. As for side effects, it seems that what you hear most about is trouble sleeping (Parnate) and weight gain (Nardil). There is a wonderful group on Yahoo of people who take MAOIs and i am sorry i dont have the computer savvy to link you, but im sure someone here can. The group is an amazing source of info and experiences on MAOIs.
