First of all, "bearing it" means risking the potential for death, as hypertensive crises are potentially fatal.
People don't go to the E-R over them because they're annoyed by the way their beating heart sounds while they're trying to listen to Billy Joel, they do it so they won't die. Why would you ever risk your life over something when you can take a pill that could save it?
There's special emergency intervention pills available. Don't confuse these with beta blockers, which take 40 minutes to 1 hr. to kick in. I'm sure they kick in much faster than that, since they're intended for emergencies.
