In reply to selegiline (eldpryl) working for anyone?, posted by matt66 on March 6, 2003, at 13:38:09
Hey Matt, a few comments . . .
> Based on what I've read on this site, all my future med trials are going to be for a solid six weeks from now on.
At least six weeks! I would say you need at least four on a max dose unless you are sure you are completely not responding.
>Formerly i was in such a panic to feel good again after the nardil stopped working,
From reading your posts, I frankly do not think that you ever gave Nardil a fair trial. Your initial immediate response seems quite odd and then you gave up on it before a good six week trial at the top dose.
>I also simply couldn't accept not feeling right, and went to bed every night expecting to feel different overnight.
This is a common understandable mistake that I think we have all made. Remember that these meds make you feel better GRADUALLY.
> However, reading some posts here, it seems that in some cases there's a storm before the calm and that lots of people stick with a drug even if it's giving them increased anxiety or seeming to make them worse in some regards.
This has been my response. Worse for a few weeks then gradually, slowly getting better without really realizing it.
From reading your posts, I would say that it is not fair to classify you as "treatment resistant." It does not seem that you have given many treatments a fair trial yet. Please let us know how selegeline goes for you. What dose are you on? From what I hear, you have to get pretty high on oral selegeline to get real MAO inhibition.
I seem to remember you saying you had ECT, did you have no positive response from that??
Good luck and God Bless,
JACK
