That's a loaded question for me. As I've mentioned before, I gained 40 pounds in the 6 months I was on Effexor before going on the Lexapro. Well, the extra weight exacerbated an old foot injury (too much weight on a weak twisted foot, and the size of my thighs keep me from my normal gait). I am in the process of getting fitted for a very expensive foot brace so I can start exercising again. I was always into fitness before this whole AD mess started, and in the past 3 years have gone from a size 8 -- which was big for me, even at age 35 -- to a size 18 -- I know these numbers may not mean anything to a man, but it will to the women who read this. Just in the past year, I went up from a size 10/12 -- I can't fathom how much bigger I am now from the size 6 I was until age 35.
Anyhow, so I am in constant pain from my foot all the way into my lower back. Since I cannot exercise, I cannot do much to lose the weight -- the Lexapro has lessened my appetite, thank goodness, but that has just served to stem the weight gain, and I haven't lost anything yet. I may have gained about 5-8 pounds so far on the Lexapro, NOTHING compared to the Effexor, and I'm not blaming the Lexapro for this.
So this is my long explanation for no, I don't think Lexapro has caused any additional weight problems for me. Once I get this brace, which will be weeks from now, I would love to see if I can actually lose weight while on an AD. I will then also get back on a low-carb diet (I know I could do it now, but I don't feel like cooking with all this pain).
So far, the only s/e that I think I am experiencing from Lexapro is dry mouth, insomnia and excessive sweating. Small price to pay for treating depression.
