Tommy Tommy, I have tried a variety of mood stabilizers. Every one of them produce the feeling you described. The way I could best describe it to me would be anesthetised or vegetized. These are strong words and I'm sorry if I upset anyone out there. I felt numb to any feelings of pleasure. Around people I could not carry on a conversation. I could not formulate anything amusing or spontaneous to say. This aggravated my social anxiety disorder and sent me on a downward spiral from which I am still trying to recover.
I'm telling you this in the hopes that you, health care proffesionals and other people considering these meds. are aware of what they are getting into. On the other hand lexapro and all the other AD's had just the opposite effect. They sometimes made me talk too much, (a lot less unpleasant side effect than the mood stabilizers). Fish Oil is a subtle mood stabilizer. I am currently taking fish oil and it does'nt seem to have the same flattening feeling. Good luck to you!
