Effexor v. SSRI's

I have heard from several people that effexor is considered to be a little more powerful than an SSRI. Does anyone with real experience with both agree or disagree?

PS I am familiar with their diff't mechanisms of action, I am just wondering what people's experiences with the two are. In other words, save the psychopharmacological lecture for another thread.
