Wellbutrin + Zyprexa

Posted by Passion on January 11, 2003, at 15:48:47

I keep hearing about people being on Wellbutrin and also Zyprexa at the same time. This doesn't really make sense to me, as the two are cancelling each other out? Wellbutrin as most may know inhibits the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, in effect increasing the levels of these neurotransmitters in the synapse.

Zyprexa is a dopamine ANTAGONIST, that's the whole point and is why it works against schizophrenia. It blocks dopamine receptors (D1-D4) and keeps it from binding. It also antagonizes norepinephrine receptors.

Does anyone have a clue why lots of people are on this combo that seems to cancel each other out? maybe I'm missing something.
Thanks in Advance
