In reply to Wellbutrin - fat tongue, ears feel plugged, posted by Tyler on December 10, 2002, at 22:52:40
Hi Tyler -
Most important part is below on antipsychotic drugs (wellbutrin is not one of them)
Wellbutrin itself is not likely to cause a abnormal movement - unless you have a prexisting movement disorder or seizure problem, or are using polypharmacy.
I don't know if fat tongue can be caused by Wellbutrin. But I do know that acute and chronic drug induced movements / movements disorders can cause 'fat tongue', tongue movements, and movements abnormal of all kinds and varieties.
QUESTION: Have you *ever* taken an antipsychotic drug? (ie; zyprexa, risperidone, haldol, etc). If so, what and how long.
With FEW exceptions, ONLY antypsychotics CAUSE involuntary abnormal movements - barring an actual heriditary movement disorder which you have anyway.
I have had amisulpride induced movement disorders, later aggrevated by Zyprexa.
Regarding Dr's - don't expect a Dr. to be honest with you - my experience over 1 year with many and subsequent opinion based on myself and what I've discussed is that most psychiatrists WILL COVER UP ANTIPSYCHOTIC DRUG INDUCED MOVEMENT DISORDERS.
If you have an antipsychotic drug induced movement disorder your only ally is likely to be a lawyer who routinely handles these cases. If you have this problem I recommend a lawyer consult which can be had for free. A/P drug induced movement disorders - I learned the hard way - no matter what you know - the patient loses to the Dr. who can get away with anything regarding records.
That is my experience and opinion. Good luck. Write me if you want at my website.

> I have been on Wellbutrin for 8 days. Today I increased the dosage to 300mg. My speech has been a little slurred and my tongue feels fat and heavy. Also, my ears feel like they are plugged. I have been consuming about 3 - 4 glasses of wine nightly and I was wondering if anyone has any problems with the alcohol and wellbutrin?
