When will Wellbutrin work? What is your experience?
My husband has a high stress job. Two weeks after he had surgery his primary physician put him on Prozac (which I think was strange because many people are tired after surgery). He had a bizarre reaction to Prozac and two weeks into the therapy was ready to jump out a window. So he started clonazipam. The primary then sent him to a psychiatrist who added effexor.
Effexor gave him Sexual side effects from the very first day even though it helped his moods after about a week and he was only on 30 something mgs. By the time he was up to 75 it had effectively chemically castrated him. His psychiatrist weaned him off but left him on the clonaziapam and added Wellbutrin SR 150 about a week later. He became able to function again but he needs attention not at all his normal state. He also has difficulty maintaining an erection.
The psychiatrist added 150 Wellbutrin SR. He told my husband it would help the SSEs and give him energy. He has been on it 5 weeks. He doesn't have extra energy and if anything his SSE has increased again. He needs to take the clonazipam but he is on a low dose.
What a nightmare this has been. The meds have added stress/performance issues that he did not have before. And both his therapist and his psychiatrist maintain it is not the meds it is psychological which is bull twinkie. He had NO problems whatsoever before - I used to be pursued all the time.I read an article that I can't find right now that. A study showed 77% were affected positively and 14% of the study were affected negatively. We are afraid he might fall in the 14%. If the Dr. increases his dose I guess we will know. When his effexor was increased he lost all function.
Is there still hope that the Wellbutrin will help? Might an increased dosage help? How long did it take those who had increased libido and normal functioning?
Thanks so much!
