I guess the plan is:
MAOI -> MAOI + X -> X -> X + Y (-> Y)
Klonopin seems like a reasonable choice for X because of it's powerful anxiolytic effects. (What is the plan for Y?) I've found that a combination of Klonopin (as background medication) and Xanax as the main benzo to be very effective because to a small extent Xanax is antidepressive, whereas Klonopin can be slightly depressogenic.
Also remember that if you monitor things very carefully you can start on Y without a complete washout of MAOI. You psychiatrist may feel differently but plenty of people take MAOIs in combination with TCAs or SSRI as steady state medication. Obviously they have to be constantly monitoring their B.P. and on the guard for emerging toxic effects.
Good luck,
Britt
