In reply to BENZOS ARE SAFER THAN ANTIDEPRESSANTS, posted by Hiba on August 13, 2002, at 4:17:50
I haven never taken ADs, except for a very
old (the first) drug I was given for depression
(imipramine) which made me so sick i told my
doc i would not take it - it actually made
me so dizzy i almost fell into the metro tracks
going to school.I have only taken lithium (which as i say is
like water).I tried withdrawing from that and for 3 months
i was ok but then started feelinga little depressed
got cold feet (as i did not inform my doc) and
went back on.The benzos are another story; the Xanax i did in
3 months with relatively little trouble. Of course
there was anxiety, and insomnia. The Klonopin
was impossible to get off of - i was very sick
for a year and a half; my skin turned papery, i had
severe sweating at night, tinnitis, anxiety,
insomnia, and my head started bobbing involuntarily;
i went to emergency and an older doctor said to
me i was having myoclonic seizures - not to worry -
but i should not get off on the net - what if i
have a real seizure - indeed;I cannot tell about the ADs - from what i have heard
the later ones are very difficult to withdraw from. That's my input - hope it helps. Whether benzos
are safer - i suppose one could ask in what respect.Squiggles
