Yes Ive been through this route, you need to get your levels of shgb tested as well as the testosterone, this is a protein which inactivates the testosterone, it doesnt matter if you have normal levels of testosterone if the shgb is too high it is as if you have too little testosterone.
The best book I found was "the testosterone revolution" by malcolm carruthers
Mine was low and my shgb way too high but 3 months of restandol treatment did nothing apart from make me tired, which was the opposite of what i was expecting.
However in the book there are many examples of excellent response so it is worth looking at.
Sorry your doc was not too enthusiastic about the steroid effect, maybe they just dont know what to do with the information!
I know what you mean about music , I havent listened to mine for over a year , even considering selling my collection!good luck
