Has anyone been treated for low testosterone?

Posted by Jerrympls on August 10, 2002, at 4:34:09

Success? Did it help the depression? Was it found that the low testosterone level was causing the depression? I'm 30 - and wondering if it could be a possibility for me.

Thanks for info.......

Hi jerry me again,
Yes Ive been through this route, you need to get your levels of shgb tested as well as the testosterone, this is a protein which inactivates the testosterone, it doesnt matter if you have normal levels of testosterone if the shgb is too high it is as if you have too little testosterone.
The best book I found was "the testosterone revolution" by malcolm carruthers
Mine was low and my shgb way too high but 3 months of restandol treatment did nothing apart from make me tired, which was the opposite of what i was expecting.
However in the book there are many examples of excellent response so it is worth looking at.
Sorry your doc was not too enthusiastic about the steroid effect, maybe they just dont know what to do with the information!
I know what you mean about music , I havent listened to mine for over a year , even considering selling my collection!

good luck
glenn

Yes, low testosterone is one of the 3 health issues that cured my "depression". Two years ago after having discovered that I was definitely hypoglycemic and had done everything health wise to fell better, I still felt bad. One day I saw a show regarding women - depression - lack of libido - it discussed the effects of low testosterone in women, and the common occurance of this now in women in particular that had had two or more children. I got the book "Okay, so I don't have a headache by Cristina Ferrare" and it really made since - she speaks of how her low testosterone levels had made her depressed, have major sugar cravings, and a low libido etc. Anyway, I had mine checked - yep it was almost nil. Fortunately, by getting off of my BC pills, mine was able to return to normal levels. But YES, I do think that this can cause major effects of depression. Doctors don't typically do this test unless requested, so ask!

(Please note that just fixing this did not make me completely well, eating properly to cure my hypoglycemia, then finding out that I had Narcolepsy as well and having that treated finally was the answer - so don't be surprised if it takes more than one solution to make you better.)

ANd note, awake at last, that we're discussing the same subject a little ways up under "high testosterone." I've long been a non-fan of B.C. pills. I just don't like the idea of more estrogen/ less testosterone which is what B.C. pills do... I think that they wipe out libido and cause crankiness and emotional sensitivity.

I agree, I took them for many years without trouble, but after my 2nd child, my system went crazy when I went back on them. I suspect the many years of using them changed my system, I don't use them now and will never go back on them...besides...now that I take Provigil for my Narcolepsy...it's a mute point anyway - the provigil makes BC Pills ineffective.
