In reply to ADD only cause of depression?, posted by Preston on July 31, 2002, at 12:40:54

Yes, I have a friend, she and I were experiencing the same problems, extreme fatigure, lack of motivation, inability to concentrate, major mood swings.....
She was diagnosed with ADD and put on Concerta and is living a very normal life now. I on the other hand was continually treated for depression, but nothing worked, I was eventually diagnosed with narcolepsy and have been put on Provigil....made a world of difference.
Funny thing is that narcolepsy and ADD are for the most part treated with the same meds. Provigil isn't approved for ADD yet but is being looked into (I'd love to see what would be diagnosed if I took the ADD test and she took the MSLT test). I'm afraid that Doctors often diagnose depression more often than they should, I was persistant in determining the root cause of my problems.... (they were hypoglycemia, low testosterone, and narcolepsy). Fight for what you believe.....research....and ask questions - if you don't feel it's depression - keep searching.
