In reply to AD's to be taken with GOOD diet, posted by linkadge on July 1, 2002, at 20:28:59
I totally agree with you. It's pretty amazing to me that this extremely important fact isn't even considered in most pdoc offices. It's, pardon the pun, a no-brainer to try to address all facets and influences when dealing with a mood disorder. One other suggestion is to use the methylcobolamin form of B12 rather than cyanocobolamin. The methyl form is taken up by the brain much more effectively - in fact, some schools say that the cyano form isn't taken up neuronally at all, but is mainly relegated to the gut. I second the folic acid idea. When I'm taking 1 gram I generally feel better. The sublingual form works best for me. Thanks for reminding me, cause since running out of it a while back, I completely forgot! Also, have you experimented with the B vite coenzyme sublinguals? There's some impressive studies done, but I haven't yet tried them. - BCat

Before taking AD's many people try a healthy diet which doesn't work in itself then after resorting to AD's they think that they will do all the work to maintaining a good mood. Never raise the level of an antidepressant untill it is proven uneffective for two weeks on a heathly diet. I realize that it is extremeely difficult to make a healthy meal when you feel like shit but, ballancing the brain takes more than one chemical. As in my previous post I have found it possible to reduce my Celexa with a folic acid + B12 supplement. I have tried to do it before but it just didn't work.
