In reply to Klonopin is a mood stabilizer????, posted by Essence on June 12, 2002, at 6:45:35
Most pdocs would consider it a secondary mood stabilizer, and use it as an adjunct to the primary ones- lithium, depakote, now zyprexa. I've found it works very well for me (I am diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder) and after 4 years of trying every mood stabilizer out there, klonopin is the only one I will continue to take. Hope this helps- Judy
P.S. It is the drug of choice in panic disorder, and some theories link epilepsy, bipolar and panic as types of neuronal 'misfirings'.
