Does anyone have experience with both Adderal and Parnate (taken at different times)? I’ve been on Adderal for almost three years after having tried most AD’s except MAOI (nothing helped). While the Adderal has helped a lot with symptoms of depression (maybe moreso than the ADD/inattentive), I’m also wondering if Parnate might might do a better job, and more consistent (i.e. longer acting).
I’m now at the point where I’ve stopped Adderal for a sufficient period and have an Rx of Parnate which I could start anytime. Although my last break from the Adderal went fine, this current vacation from it has been unpleasant, mentally speaking (never had any physical addiction to it as far as I can discern) – depressed and slept the whole holiday weekend and ruminated over a relationship that should be forgotten history.
I’m not looking forward to continuing like this for whatever period is needed to see if the Parnate works (and the waiting period after if it doesn’t), when I could just resume the adderal and make do. Despite its shortcomings, I’m used to the “quick fix” that the Adderal provides. Which is also its main drawback – when the dose wears off, so does its beneficial effect.
I guess it comes down to always wanting the quick fix and not willing to sacrafice for the possibility of a better solution (my life story).
Even though it may seem like this is an apples vs. oranges comparison, the Adderal has enabled me to at least keep my head above water and hold down a job for the past two years where otherwise I would have been an unemployed slug. And it has also helped with chronic muscular back pain (go figure).
I would appreciate any feedback on Adderal vs. Parnate. Thank you.
