I read with great interest your above conversation. I have had much experience with a lot of this crap (20 years bulimic and depressed, 15 years working with handicapped people and now of all things NERVE DAMAGE). You won't find too many doctors who will agree with you. 98% will say this bitch is really nuts--she thinks that an antidepressant is helping with her delusions. 1. We know she's nuts because she walked through the door and told us. 2. We know that she is delusional because she walked through the door and told us. This must be just another one of her delusions. You would not believe what doctors say about you behind your back. I say if it is helping you, then it is helping you. Why question it? No one can see inside of your brain and no one but you knows how you feel. Your answer is really written in your question. You say that your psychotic symptoms are triggered by stress, therefore by eliminating the stress you may prevent psychotic episodes. If you get the manufacturer's inserts for all of the psych drugs that you are or have been on, you will see that they all say that the exact action in that brain is unknown, and that it is "believed to work in such and such a manner". Most doctors can't stand a patient who knows more than they do. "I spent 10 years of my life in college; I'm $300,000 in debt, you took two pills and are going to tell me that you know more than me?" Just tell your doctor that you are doing much better and wait a few months before going into great detail so that he/she can see for him/herself that you are doing better. The newest trend in drug therapy seems to be finding new uses for old drugs instead of inventing new ones. I would probably go with the antidepressant if it works because the side effects of neuroleptics can be atrocious.
