Hi Jet,

Sorry this is a little long, I'm a little
hypomanic (super-duper energy from manic
depression). Hope this doesn't confuse you.

oils:

I found the pills to be too light weight.

Need to take too many to get a therapeutic dose.
I also worry about quality control if the pills
aren't chilled ya know.

Here is what I do:

I go to a really good health food store with a
refrigerator and I buy a bottle of "Spectrum brand"
cold pressed Flax Seed oil. They also have something
some good shit called "Essential Max" which is a good blend
if my memory serves me correct of the secret sauce in Flax
oils combined with the secret sauce in Evening Primrose oil rolled into one
bottle! They seem to be pushing this brand. I by this
in Texas, I don't know if they have it elsewhere.
Anyways I guess you can sprinkle it on nuts or whatever, but
I'm no whimp, (Ok, I admit, I'm no cook), so I take 2 tablespoons,
(which is like 8 of those stupid pills), and I just plug my nose and
down the shoot she goes. Chase it with a glass of water.
Trial and error to find the 2 tablespoons
for an effective dose. Also take anti-oxidants vitamin E
and C for neuroprotections (lipid peroxidation from oils).
Fish oils are good for mood, ya know!
No stinking. Or at least no subjective
complaint of stinking from friends and family.

Anti-depressants:

Ok, now onto the Anti-depressants. Topamax is a mood
stabilizer, but its making you stupid. This is a common
side effect. Not acceptable, we need to fix this.
I'm sorry for your plight.

1 important question:

which Ads have you taken so far with no or
crappy response?

I'm thinking maybe we should stick with the mood
stabilizers given success on Topamax. A good medicine
with low side effects and few complaints of stupidity
and an excellent anti-depressant profile (a lot of people
get a very robust response after many failures on other
medicines) is Lamictal (this is my bread and butter
so I am a bit biased). Lamictal is also in the mood
stabilizer class.

Now there is one downside to Lamictal which you
might be scare of. And that is when you start the
medicine, there is a chance that you will get some
irritation on your skin. This generally subsides
but you need to titrate the dose of the medicine
up *very carefully*. Hopefully your pdoc has some
experience with this medicine. It takes a few months
too. Other side effects as you bump the dose may
include a little dizziness (sorry, but it does go
away). Fortunately when you get to the therapeutic
range the incidence of side effects tends to be
low. No sexual dysfunction, etc. May be able to
dump the Topamax. I take 400 mg of Topamax with
150 mg of Lamictal and I am not dumb on Topamax.
I also take some Serzone for headaches and the
Lamictal seems to be preventing it from making
me dumb like Serzone made me REALLY dumb last time
I took it, again I'm only one data point.

So, these are just my opinions.

Other options maybe you havent tried are low
dose medicines like Zyprexa. Good for anxiety.

I guess it would be good to see the list of
medicines you took and the problems you had.

Good luck,
John

> Think you're pretty funny huh mister? Just Kidding :) Well I would come back with a great come back, but this Topastupid medicine has made me just that - stupid. I used to be pretty quick on my feet, but not any more. But it has made the difference in me wanting to get up in the morning or stay in bed, so I am trying to live with all of the negative side-effects.

> As far as the drying out goes, how did you take the flax oil? By pill or by putting it in juice? I currently am grinding up the seeds and drinking them in juice, but I don't think that will have the same effect on the joints as the oil will have.
>
> Also - I don't take anything else for depression. I still swing some, just not as back as before Topa. What do you suggest? I tried many AD's before Topa and none worked, but I didn't try Serzone. Do you suggest going on another AC? I am up for any suggestions to bring to my pdoc. He will let me try anything.
