Im sure you know that they both are precursors to the catecholamines dopamine and norepinephrine. I can say a few things about DL Phenylalanine and L-Tyrosine. They are more consistent if taken on an empty stomach. First thing in the morning is a good time. It can be a trial and error process. Too much is as useless as not enough because the norepinephrine and dopamine receptors will up-regulate or/and the auto-receptors that control the release of these neurotransmitters will cease firing as much neurotransmitter because there is too much. A balance has to be found.
I would take a good B-Vitamin. Folic acid and B6 are very important. Vitamin C, Magnesium and Calcium also support the synthesis of neurotransmitters. As I recommended to you before SAM-E is excellent for the synthesis of neurotransmitters. I think DL-Phenylanine is okay with re-uptake inhibitors although I found that I wasnt able to get a response. I suspect the amino acid prevented the AD from working[5-HTP and Paroxetine]. You may want to consider this. A little could boost an AD's effect significantly. Bear in mind if a depressed person is given an antidepressant without any augmentation it will still take a few weeks to start working and will often been effective for a long time.
I would add that the catecholamines are implicated in maintaining drive and energy so might be particulaly useful. Let us know how it work out.
