Scott,
I'm BPII but I was initially misdiagnosised as ADHD by a pdoc and perscribed Ritalin. I will not bore you with the details but, long story short, this idiot pdoc distroyed my life by not conducting an adequate diagnosis before passing out the pills!
My advice:
1) Make sure you have the correct dx. Use on-line test (link below) as a first step. See more than one pdoc to verify dx.
2) If you are BP, DO NOT take AD's and definitely DO NOT take pstim's without first having a mood stablizer fully in place.

And if the occassional benzo is all I need to quell any so called "hypomania" which is really more like occasional goofiness and immaturity and nothing more severe do I really need one? I never act on my impulses, and I'm not even sure it's hypomania or rather antidepressant induced stupidity that mimics ADHD. My sleep is fantastic no matter what state I'M in except that I need a lot of it...
