Have you had any success in deciding what to do? I didn't answer this post because I have grown rather discouraged by medications and didn't feel I had much to offer. Have you tried mood stabilizers and anti-convulsants? They at least haven't caused many problems for me.
I think that probably your main goal should be to find a good pdoc. They do exist. I hava a good one right now, after a few tries. I know it is discouraging to have to keep looking, but it is well worth the effort. There have to be a few good pdocs in your part of the country.
And at the risk of offending a few, have you looked into cognitive behavior therapy or some other sort of therapy? It's not the complete answer but it can be a good augmentation to meds.
I've been worried about you. Can you post and let us know how you're doing?
