Remeron for PMS

Posted by Else on December 13, 2001, at 16:11:20

My doctor put me on Remeron about a month ago after a few months off ADs. I found the drug to be very effective and very fast-acting and I was pleasantly surprised. I have typically responded poorly to ADs in the past and/or could not tolerate the side-effects. This is not the case with Remeron except that it does not seem to be helping with my PMS symptoms anymore than other ADs have. My symptoms seem to be getting worse by the month. I know this phenomenon is unrelated to the Remeron because it has been going on for some time. I considered taking Prozac for this because it is the only drug that has been studied and proven effective for this but my doctor suggested I stick with the Remeron for an additional cycle just to see what happens. Is Remeron likely to be effective for PMS ? I know that it has some but not all the effects of SSRIs. I used to be on Zoloft and I don't remember it being very effective but then again, my symptoms were not as bad when I was on it (they were not as bad before I was on it either), so I don't know what to make of this. Is there any reason to think Prozac would work if Zoloft didn't? What about Remeron? My PMS symptoms have gotten to be extremely severe to the point where I spend two weeks simply waiting for the next two weeks. I put my life on hold in the meantime because I feel so horrible. I feel like this is robbing me of 50% of my life. It's really getting out of hand (and apparently worsenning) and I don't know what to do about it. I tried the Pill several times but it only made things worse. I can't find any serious scientific data about this condition and I fear that it is because there isn't any. Does anybody know something I don't?
