Changes in Med Restriction Levels?

Posted by Rick on December 5, 2001, at 17:40:31

In reply to a post about Provigil (modafinil), christophrejmc brought up the possibility of re-classification to a different schedule (FDA substance restriction class).

That made me curious as to whether any psychotropic meds have ever switched classes, e.g., gone from Class IV to unrestricted or gone from Class III to the more restrictive Class II.

If anyone has examples, including the justification if you know it (e.g., petition to FDA based on additional studies by manufacturer), I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Thanks,
Rick
